The Republican party needed to increase its support for Bush’s second Presidential election and quite deliberately went after the fundamentalist evangelical vote promising support for two issues-family values and anti -abortion. Jim Wallis and other Christian leaders set out to reclaim the moral high ground with the emphasis on social justice and a heart for the poor, civil rights and peace.. Wallis is the Founder of Sojourners a nationwide network of progressive Christians working for justice and peace, and is also the Convener of Call to Renewal, a national federation of churches and faith-based organizations working together to overcome poverty by changing the direction of public policy.
