I read the following from Bible Society newsletter. The incident says something about our society - is this an expression of our PC post-modern society, fear and pressure the police have to deal with? How can we respond?
The Dean of Guildford Cathedral has criticised the behaviour of police who shot a man dead on the cathedral steps and ordered the cathedral’s closure for the first time since it was consecrated. Police fired bullets into the building after David Sycamore (39) claimed he had a gun and was ‘going to kill people’, Dean Stock said. But the bullets passed through two glass walls close to a group of Cathedral volunteers. The Dean was disappointed that he was refused permission to say prayers over Mr Sycamore’s body and baffled that the police had ‘little understanding’ of a cathedral ‘as sanctuary or sacred space’. Mr Sycamore’s family said he was ‘a loving and caring young man’ who ‘suffered with manic depression’.
